Mole Removal, Skin Tag Removal, and How The Technology Works?

How are moles and skin tags removed?

During your complimentary consultation, we will discuss your treatment options as well as any possible side effects.

There are several methods used for surgical mole and skin tag removal: radiofrequency technology, shave excision, punch biopsy, and excision surgery. All excision instruments used are surgical, sterile and numbing agents are often used to minimize any discomfort.

    RF Technology

radiofrequency mole removal uses a device called an Ellman electrode loop to gently shave the mole away layer by layer from the skin surface. This type of technology is the best option for minimal scarring.

    Shave Excision

if the mole is flat or has deeper roots in the skin, removal may leave an indentation. With this technique, the skin heals from the edges. This may take several weeks.

    Full Excision

the mole and adjacent skin are removed along with a portion of the underlying subcutaneous skin tissue. The skin edges are then sutured to approximate the skin. This technique will leave a small surgical incision line.

    Laser Treatments

often effective for flat moles that are not raised. Our laser is great for spots on skin and can also remove the coloration of some moles. We often recommend a free test spot to determine if you will receive good results prior to treating multiple areas.

Before the procedure, the area is cleaned and injected with a local anesthetic (often lidocaine) into the tissue surrounding the mole or skin tag. This numbs the area for about an hour so you don’t feel the mole or skin tag being excised. The procedure itself is quick and a topical hemostatic is used to stop bleeding. Average procedure time is about 15-20 minutes.

*At this time, we do not offer biopsy services. A biopsy would be warranted if a lesion was suspected to be pre-malignant or malignant (cancerous). Lesions we would suggest being sent for a biopsy include those that are rapidly growing, changing, bleeding with little to no irritation, recently developed, or appear on an individual with a personal or family history of cancer.
